Perth’s Wildflower Wonders

Grab your walking shoes and camera – Perth’s wildflower trails are the nature escape you didn’t know you needed. We’ve rounded up some hidden gems bloomin’ with nature’s best (and just a hop,
skip and a jump from the city).

Ellis Brook Valley Reserve, Martin

Ellis Brook is where the wild things bloom, just 35 minutes from Perth. This nature reserve comes alive, September through to November, with more than 500 wildflower species bursting with colour, from Donkey Orchids, Pincushion Coneflowers, to Bird Orchids. Our favourite way to take in the beauty is on the Blue Wren Ramble Trail, or for those that like a little challenge, opt for the Sixty Foot Falls trail – the ultimate selfie backdrop. Thank us later. Entry is free.

John Forrest National Park, Hovea

Half an hour from Perth, John Forrest National Park is where wildflowers and history meet for a nature packed day out. For just a bit of pocket change, you get waterfalls, historic tunnels, and trails teaming with flowers, including the Lemon Scented Darwinia, Parrotbush Banksia Sessilis, Swan River Myrtle, Yellow Buttercups and so much more. We recommend the 4.5km Wildflower Walk from August through to November. Bring your mates, a picnic, and get ready to explore. Entry is $15 per vehicle.

Lesmurdie Falls, Forrestfield

Chasing waterfalls? Lesmurdie Falls in Mundy Regional Park is a must. It’s not just about the water though; it’s a full-on wildflower wonderland from August to November bloomin’ with Dryandras, Yellow Buttercups, Grevilleas, White Banjines, Sticky Starflowers, Morning Irises, Couch Honeypots, Pincushion Hakeas and more. The Valley Loop trail is prime for that ‘top of the world’ feeling and Insta-worthy falls shots. Access the trail via the Palm Terrace carpark. Entry is free.

Rocky Pool, Kalamunda

For those who like their trails with a bit of thrill, Rocky Pool will have your heart racing. It’s a 5km challenge with a reward: wildflowers in every shade and a historic pool to dip your toes in. Best times to visit are September to October to catch species such as Wattles, Orchids, Blue Leschenaultia, Kangaroo Paw, Hakea and more. It’s rugged, it’s beautiful, and it’s got those ‘worth it’ views. Keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife; they’re just as keen to meet you. Entry is free.
